Joint Efforts with HRI - on the Global Fund Post Replenishment:
An online Webinar on the Implications of Harm Reduction programmes in Asia

Francis Joseph – Regional Coordinator NAPUD

Post-Replenishment Harm Reduction Webinar

The Seventh Global Fund Replenishment has fallen short which has severe implications, particularly for key population programming including harm reduction. An underfunded Global Fund stretched to capacity will dramatically and disproportionately affect harm reduction in LMI countries. Harm reduction investments may reduce, leading to programme closure and a rollback in the hard-fought progress in the reform of laws and policies that impede the HIV response and human rights of people who use drugs.

The Global Fund is the largest harm reduction donor, providing at least 60% of all international donor funding for harm reduction. Many countries are over-reliant on the Global Fund to sustain and scale-up programmes reaching people who use drugs through country grants. The Global Fund is also a source of critical support for community-led and civil society advocacy for harm reduction and the legal and policy reform necessary to remove barriers to HIV prevention, treatment and care for people who use drugs.

Harm Reduction International (HRI) has invited NAPUD for a panel discussion on a “Post Replenishment Debrief” A Webinar to discuss on the Implications for Harm Reduction” programs. Please see the attached flyer and the agenda in the below text.
