Md.Alamin Bashar Nipu currently spearheads the “Innovative Advocacy Approaches Project (IAAP)” as the National Coordinator, a pivotal endeavor aimed at championing the health and human rights of People who Use Drugs (PWUD) in Bangladesh. This groundbreaking project, a collaboration between Ashokta Punarbashan Sangstha (APOSH) and the Network of People Who Use Drugs (NPUD-Bangladesh), represents a bold step towards fostering inclusive and rights-based approaches within the country’s public health landscape.

Nipu’s journey in this realm commenced in 2012 as a Counselor cum NA meeting organizer under a project funded by The Global Fund at APOSH. Since then, his trajectory has been marked by unwavering dedication to HIV prevention and rehabilitation, particularly among the most marginalized populations. Central to his expertise is harm reduction strategies tailored for PWUD, encompassing a holistic spectrum from social mobilization to counseling, detoxification, family support, and behavioral change interventions.

What distinguishes Nipu is not only his professional acumen but also his deeply rooted personal experience with drug use, a journey that fuels his advocacy with unparalleled empathy and insight. This lived experience, coupled with a Master’s Degree in Public Health, positions him as a formidable force driving evidence-based solutions and transformative change within Bangladesh’s public health discourse. As the National Coordinator of IAAP, Nipu stands as a beacon of hope, leading the charge toward a more equitable and compassionate approach to supporting and upholding the rights of PUD.
